Honoring the Life of Eric Tarpinian-Jachym

Eric M. Tarpinian-Jachym

October 28, 2003 - July 01, 2025

Granby, MA

Eric Michael Tarpinian-Jachym, 21, of Granby, Massachusetts, passed away on July 1, 2025, tragically from a shooting in Washington, D.C. one mile from the White House. Eric was honored to be hired by Rep. Estes from Kansas for a summer internship as a Legislative Intern to the House of Representatives. His life, though heartbreakingly short, was filled with passion, curiosity, and achievement. Eric was a beloved son, brother, nephew, grandson, student, and friend.

Eric was born on October 28, 2003, in Springfield, MA, the youngest of three children. He was a graduate of Granby Public Schools, and an alumnus of the Bement School in Deerfield, MA. He was a stellar student recognized for his academic excellence. He was a Latin enthusiast. Eric received Honors with passing the National Latin Exam, receiving a Gold Medal, The American Classical League, April 2020; Best Delegate Award, Boston College High School, March 2020; National Latin Exam Silver Medal, The American Classical League, April 2019 and National Latin Exam Summa Cum Laude and The American Classical League April 2018. He was on Debate Club, Model UN, Chess Club and Bowling Club during his high school years.

Eric attended Bryant University for finance his freshman year but wanted to come back to Massachusetts to be with his family. Eric received a scholarship to many Universities but chose Bryant because of their reputation of being an excellent Business School, plus he said, "I can fish the Rhode Island shores and lakes." Eric was then accepted to Isenberg School of Management, for sophomore year and was honored to be part of the UMASS/Isenberg Business School Community. While at UMASS Eric was active in clubs on campus including Ski Club, Armenian Club, Chess Club, Finance Society, and Investment Club.

Eric was honored to receive a full scholarship in January 2025 to attend the Fund for American Studies in Washington, DC, along with being a full time fellow with Advanced Advocacy from Jan 2025 - May 2025 and while attending George Mason University full time for the semester.

Eric started archery in 4th grade and then became a competitive recurve archer and competed in Jr. Olympic Archery Development. He competed in their competitions along with the USA Archery Nationals on many occasions and was a Level One Instructor for Archery. Eric loved the Archery community because of the encouragement to do your personal best and be part of a team.

Eric started fishing when he was a toddler on the R.I. waters with his siblings, grandpa and parents. He would crab, fish, and when he got older loved clamming with his friends and family. Eric was a member of Rhode Island Saltwater Anglers Association along with his father. He frequently competed in tournaments, free dives to remove marine debris and has supported RISAA's initiatives before the Rhode Island Fisheries Commissions.

He also belonged to Pioneer Valley Boat & Surf in Agawam, MA, where he was on the Board of Directors and the youngest board member ever. Eric met so many wonderful people at this club. He was in all their fishing tournaments, sold raffle tickets at the Sportsmen's Show and met many nice mentors at this club who honed in on how Eric cared about the environment and fishing while encouraging younger and older generations to participate in fishing.

He has mentored people on the R.I. shores. Eric and his best fishing buddy, David Boggs entered the Rhode Island Surfcasting classic. Fishing Clubs from RI, CT, and MA participate, and this competition is held in the Fall. Eric winning the Trophy for the Pioneer Valley Boat and Surf made Eric and the Club so happy, especially David, his fishing buddy, during the tournament. He also loved ice fishing with his father and brother.

Eric's presence was marked by a bright mind, quiet determination, and a quick wit. We ask that you remember Eric for his kind heart, intelligence, his sense of justice, love of nature, and his unwavering curiosity. Eric was a humble old soul. He leaves behind his family, close friends, a university, and intern community that will feel his absence deeply.

Eric leaves his devoted parents Tamara Tarpinian-Jachym and Robert Jachym; his older sister Angela; older brother Jeremy all of Granby and his best buddy, Hunter, the family German Short Hair Pointer who he had a very special bond with over the last 11 yrs. He leaves his Uncle and Aunt Michael and Patti Jachym of Monson; his Uncle and Godfather David and Jane Jachym from South Windsor, CT and his Uncle Mark and Aunt Cathy from NC. He also leaves his Godmother Marisa Zulch, and many cousins across the country, too numerous to mention. He was the grandson of the late Longin and Ursula Jachym of Wilbraham, and Evelyn Gurski Tarpinian and Harry Tarpinian of Ludlow and Westerly, R.I.

Saint Gregory remembers Sonia Meregian

Sonia Meregian

1937 - August 4, 2024

East Longmeadow, MA

Sonia (nee Mangasarian) Meregian passed away peacefully at home on August 4, 2024 at the age of 86. Born and raised in Whitinsville, MA to the late Krikor and Elizabeth (nee Derderian) Mangasarian, Sonia was a devoted Daughter, Wife, Mother and Grandmother whose deep faith guided every aspect of her life. She will forever be remembered for the unconditional love and kindness she bestowed upon her family and friends.

A native New Englander born to Armenian immigrants, much of Sonia's childhood was shaped by the relationships she fostered within the close-knit Armenian-centric community of Whitinsville, as well as her Father's untimely death when she was 6 years old. She was regarded as a true "hometown girl" who was proud of her humble upbringing and never forgot her roots by visiting Whitinsville as often as she could throughout her life. Sonia graduated from Northbridge High School in 1956 where she honed her musical ability as a member of the school chorus.

After graduation, music continued to be a prominent part of her life. She became a member of the Armenian Choral Group which originated in Whitinsville and was founded under the direction of Hayr Soorp Oshagan Minassian. She held the title of Church Soloist at St. Gregory Armenian Church in Indian Orchard for nearly 50 years, and whose angelic voice graced thousands of church services, weddings, funerals and events during that time. Sonia always said that God gave her the gift of a beautiful voice which she enthusiastically shared with others.

Sonia earned a Medical Secretary degree from Becker College in 1958 and subsequently worked at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester for many years. It was during this time that she was set up on a blind date with John Meregian, a fellow Armenian from Wilbraham, MA, whom she fell in love with and dated for a short nine months before marrying him in October 1963. She was predeceased by John in 2021, but together for 57 years, John and Sonia built a life of love, honor, and lots of golf! It was John who introduced and encouraged Sonia to play golf. And golf they did! They played several times a week for close to 50 years and were longtime members of both Twin Hills Country Club in Longmeadow, MA and Martin Downs Country Club in Palm City, FL.

Sonia's love for her family was rivaled only by her pride for her Armenian heritage and religion. During her teen and early adult years, she was a very active member of the Armenian Youth Federation (AYF) where she met many lifelong friends. She continued to be active in the Armenian community later in life as a member of the Armenian Relief Society (ARS) and the St. Gregory Armenian Church Ladies Guild. Sonia was also known for baking exceptionally tasty breads and cookies, which she made for family, friends and many church bazaars and functions.

Perhaps most of all, Sonia was regarded for her vibrant and gregarious personality. She could light up a room with her infectious smile, while her warm and self-assured demeanor put others at ease and made her very easy to talk to. This was evident in the work she engaged in over the years. Sonia worked in retail at Steiger's and Cherry & Webb in Longmeadow for almost 20 years where she enjoyed servicing her customers while also engaging with them socially.

Sonia was a civic minded woman who worked as a long-time election poll worker in East Longmeadow and volunteered weekly, until her death, at both the Longmeadow and East Longmeadow Senior Centers. Through her knitting circle, she spent hundreds of hours knitting shawls for cancer patients at Baystate Medical Center. She was a person who found pleasure in simple everyday events like chance meetings with friends at the grocery store and volunteering at the Senior Center Café where she was known as the "lady with the best tasting coffee".

Sonia was the loving and devoted mother to Tanya (nee Meregian) Minassian and her Husband Serge, and Nicole Meregian and her longtime partner Stephen Hahn. Sonia especially adored her two Granddaughters, Arianna and Sophia Minassian, with whom she loved to knit, bake choreg and paklava, and share her words of wisdom. Sonia was the most compassionate, most wise and most loving Mother and Grandmother that our family could have ever asked for. She was the consummate Matriarch and fountain of strength and humility, who inspired our family. Her passing leaves a void in our hearts and we will miss her dearly.

The wake will be held at Byron Keenan Funeral Home 1858 Allen Street, Springfield, MA on Friday, August 9th from 4-6pm. The funeral will be held at St. Gregory Armenian Apostolic Church, 135 Goodwin Street, Indian Orchard, MA on Saturday, August 10th at 10am followed by burial at Longmeadow Cemetery.

Donations in memory of Sonia may be sent to

Saint Gregory remembers Sima Pariseau

Sima Pariseau

1968 - June 16, 2024

Wilbraham, MA

Lifelong Wilbraham resident Sima (Setian) Pariseau, 56, left this earth tragically on June 16, 2024.

Born in Springfield, she attended Wilbraham schools and was a 1986 graduate of Minnechaug Regional High School. She received an Associate's Degree from Becker Junior College. Sima was a long-time employee of Baystate Medical Center as a Medical Coding Specialist and also a recent Coding Specialist at Massachusetts General Brigham Hospital.

Sima was a devoted member of St. Gregory Armenian Church, where she served as the Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees. Sima was also a volunteer with the Hampden County Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program, where she aided youth in the foster care system.

Outside of her work, the church, and volunteering, you could find Sima and her enormous heart with her beloved children, Dylan and Sophie, her parents, or her close friends. Sima loved to travel and experience new places and things with Dylan and Sophie, often on an adventure together.

Fellow Wilbraham residents knew Sima as the town walker, always walking up and down Main Street, often to get one of her favorite sweet treats, an ice cream at Rice's Fruit Farm. The happiness of others was Sima's main goal in life, even more so for her children and her parents.

Sima was a loyal mother and daughter, a solid rock to her friends, and never hesitated to put everyone before herself. Sadly, Sima's precious son, Dylan, was also tragically taken from us on June 16, 2024.

Sima will be gravely missed by her cherished daughter, Sophie Pariseau, devoted parents, Harry and Elizabeth Setian, two dedicated brothers; Steven Setian and his wife, Lisa, and Peter Setian, loved brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Melissa Pariseau, nieces and nephews; Christopher Setian and his partner Meghan Millspaugh, Taylor Mayer and her husband Adam and their son Tyson, and Alison and Jacob Pariseau, and her former husband Mark Pariseau.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 26 from 2:00 – 6:00 PM at St. Cecilia Church, 42 Main St., Wilbraham. A Funeral Service for Sima, and her son Dylan, will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM at St. Cecilia Church. Burial will be private. Wilbraham Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Saint Gregory remembers Salpie Cavros

Salpie Cavros

April 22, 1932 - October 2, 2023

Wilbraham, MA

Salpie (Melikian) Cavros, 91, of Wilbraham, passed away on Monday, October 2, 2023 after a long period of declining health. Salpie was born on April 22, 1932 in Springfield to Onnik & Elmas Melikian and lived her entire life in Indian Orchard and Wilbraham. She spoke exclusively Armenian until she started elementary school.

Salpie was married for 36 years to Charles Cavros until his death in January 2001. They were married at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, where their children were also baptized, but she herself remained a lifelong parishioner of the Armenian church. Together they had two daughters, Karen Wadley (Tim) of Alpharetta, GA and Kristen Marriott (Brian) of Waltham, MA. In addition to her daughters and sons in law, Salpie leaves four grandchildren: Alexia, Peter, Joshua & Ethan who were the lights of her life, as well as dozens of in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Salpie is predeceased by her sister Shaken and brothers Takvor and Gorken. When her daughters started school, she went to work as a kindergarten aide in Wilbraham Public Schools, where she stayed for over 30 years. Hundreds, if not more, of children learned to share in Mrs. Cavros' love of reading and messy crafts over the years. It was a pleasure for her to run into students around town, and eventually teach the children of former students.

Aside from her grandchildren, Salpie's greatest love was for her parish, St. Gregory's Armenian Church in Indian Orchard. She never missed a Sunday until her health prevented it, and served for many years on the parish council and as a member of the Ladies' Guild and Bible study club. Funeral services will take place on Friday, October 6, 2023 at St. Gregory Church, 135 Goodwin Street, Indian Orchard at 11:00 AM with visiting hours at the church beforehand from 9-11 AM. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery directly following the funeral. Wilbraham Funeral Home has been entrusted with all arrangements.
